Textiles

This post is kind of fashion based but not the usual. I'm recently in the middle of finishing my second year of college and have literally just finished my textiles A2 exam. We had 15 hours to create anything we wanted, I tend to stick to making dresses as it's what I'm good at. They aren't necessarily something you'd wear as they are more based around textile techniques, which is what we get marked on. Anyway my project was based on surface and textures-looking at rust, fungi, mould and things like that. I first made the skirt of my dress using plastic and trapping materials/wool/yarn in between, I then melted and created a underskirt the same but the plastic was brown coloured. I added wadding to the waist of the skirt so the skirt would puff out slightly.

First day over and I started to make the bodice of my dress I used dissolvable fabric which is a fabric that disappears when you wet it, I trapped different materials and hessian in between it, when I dissolved the fabric I added was over the too which stiffened my samples, I did this process continuously until I had enough pieces to put together to make the top part of my dress.
Last day of the exam I came in and where the wax was added to the bodice pieces to had stiffened, creating a possibly wearable bodice in a peplum style, I then created mushrooms from a variety of threads with dissolvable fabric also and placed them around the top part of the bodice, around the back until they met up.
DRESS FINISHED !!!

I had time left so I also created a wall hanging using exactly the same techniques as my dress but also placed twigs wrapped with yarn and will around them. I loved the exam and the course I've been on for the past 2 years and I'm so excited to start CCAD in September!

HERES THE FINAL OUTCOME!
