Living at home for University: Perks & Preparation

Living at home perks
So as most of you know I will be studying at The University of Sunderland in just under a weeks time, to study Fashion Journalism. I'm super excited to see everyone again that I met at summer school and to finally experience freshers... I'm a year behind okay most people in my year went to uni last year, I just didn't have a clue what I wanted to study. Although I will be studying in Sunderland I am going to be living at home and travelling through. Sunderland is about a 20 minute train journey/30 minute drive so it really isn't that bad at all. I chose not to live in halls as I've already got everything here on my plate, speaking of plates I can't cook so I would probably starve or live on pot noodles and look like a whale, I also don't particularly know how to use a washing machine (even though I used the one at work today, shh don't tell my parents). I know University is good for learning all of that kind of stuff but I'm just not interested in that yet, I don't think I ever will be with cooking, maybe next year, plus your parents are the best people to learn from, right?

Another dead set reason for not moving into accommodation was the wardrobe space, I mean my bedroom is probably smaller than University accommodation but my wardrobe space definitely isn't. I have a double, oak wardrobe and I've had it since I can remember, it's so sturdy, apart from the bar in the middle, but its done pretty well considering I have about 3 items of clothing on each hanger. It looks a mess but I promise there is some form of arrangement in there, maybe Narnia's even in the back of there somewhere. Being an absolute fashion psycho I need somewhere that fits absolutely everything I own, so why move everything when everything's already in its place.

Other perks for living at home for me are:
- My bed, I know it's comfy as I've slept on it for god knows how many years.
- I get to see my boyfriend as normal and that's a lot, we're pretty inseparable.
- I get to see my family and friends at home as well as the knew friends I've made at Uni.
- I don't need to worry about finding a new job.
- I still have my car, I probably wouldn't take it if I moved away as my parents use it occasionally.
And probably mainly I don't have to pay to live at home.

'There's no point going to Uni if you don't live there, you miss out on everything'

By 'everything' people tend to mean alcohol and socials. I'm not a massive drinker but when I do drink you can't stop me dancing the night away. The event's I'm going to during freshers I'm just sleeping at one of the girls who is living in halls and one of the girls who actually lives in Sunderland (love you Lysh&Amie), I can just do that again, providing they'll have me of course.

Uni Prep
Although I'm not moving I still have to prep for Uni, just not as much. I have however took it upon myself to change my room around slightly. When I get stressed or need motivation I want somewhere where I can just relax and I thought what a great opportunity to have a new bedroom. So my parents cam back from Ibiza and I had asked for a tapestry, the tapestry itself has Elephants on it and previously I had seen a bed spread in The Range with Elephants on. So I put them both together and my room felt more 'chilled' already.
I'm obsessed with Cars and I have a Westie, just to clear the pillow situation.
Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe are also 2 of my idols.

I've always been into Dream catchers and I add to my little collection when I can, most of them have been presents but I think they add to the relaxed vibe that I'm wanting perfectly. So I'll definitely be adding more.
My bedroom is partially still London themed, hence the black, red and white vibe but just imagine Mocha/Camel/Nude, those are the colours I'm wanting.

Sooo... here is some other things that I've had to prep in order for next weeks antics to go smoothly.

The Uni bag
River Island, Originally £35, £28 with 20% off.
Alternative travel
Train times and I also have bus timetables on my phone.
A Cork board
For all things important, Tesco £3.
Lion ears and tail
Just waiting for my inner animal to come out at freshers zoo party, Ebay £4.95.
Macbook Pro and Cannon EOS 1100D
The Essentials, I couldn't even name the price's.
Folders, Notepad's and stationary
More essentials, possibly came to around £15 from Tesco.
Magazines
Just to hide behind textbooks and pretend I'm studying.
Wall art
Just a little bit of inspiration, The Range £5.
I wish everyone who is going to University the best of luck, whether your moving or not. Enjoy every minute, I'm super excited.
